Ex'libris is a positive pop rock music band

Ex'libris is one of the "positive" Yaroslavl music bands which plays music in the pop-rock style. The project was founded in 1995 year by Nikolay Semenyaka. The band was a participant of lots different events like a concert in Olimpiysky, the rock-festival in Maloyaroslavets and many performances in Yaroslavl and Moscow clubs.

The music band likes to play optimistic music which put you in a good mood.

When the band was forming, many musicians have had a big experience of music performing in other groups. Ex'libris became popular after some merge of two bands in 2000 year.

In the beginning of 2007 year under the ridiculous circumstances Sasha (guitarist) knew from bassist Triad about another bassist who wanted to play rock. Though he recently played hard rock in different bands. But nevertheless tastes changed and he decided to work with positive songs. He is Alexey Pechkin.

Today Ex'libris is the band of five interesting musicians. The group doesn't afraid any experiments! The band is

  • Nikolay Semenyaka, voice and guitar
  • Alexander Zelenkov, guitar
  • Sergey Shishov, drums
  • Roman Troshin, keyboards
  • Alexey Pechkin, bass-guitar

Skomoroshiy Bunt is movie's folk music band

Skomoroshiy Bunt (in Russian: Скомороший бунт) was founded in April, 2005 as "special music project" of the television series "Molodoy Volkodav". Initially the band consisted of Alexander Kasatkin (the leader of the half-folk/half-bard music band "Zabava") and Zakhar Potemkin (the leader of the cult Yaroslavl folk music band "Neizvestnaya Zemlya").

Kasatkin sang and played gusli, Potekin also sang and played lyre. In May several songs was recorded. Apart from filming there were two performances: a local bike show and "The Festival of an Orthodox Song".

There were three songs in the final revision of TV mini-series. In October a singer of Cossack chorus "Charochka" joined the band. He is Evgeny Bobkov. Now the band is:

  • Alexander Kasatkin - vocal, gusli, kazoo;
  • Zakhar Potemkin - vocal, percussion, kazoo;
  • Evgeny Bobkov - vocal, lyre and kazoo.

Almost all songs are written by the band. Kasatkin has written 60%, Potemkin - 40%. There are more then 20 songs of Skomoroshiy Bunt. The most part is in album "Natsionalnaya ideya" (in Engish: National idea). In 2008 Internet-album "Geroy" (in English: The Hero) was released.

What is the style of the band? All mixed: folk, rock and sometimes Cossack...

Overdrive Blues Band is Yaroslavl jazz and blues band

We have already written posts of five Yaroslavl music bands. They play different music, but basically they perform in pop rock style. Nevertheless, there are lots of other music bands in Yaroslavl. There are both folk and jazz groups. Latter is very wide-spread in our city. We have a good Jazz Center, a good jazz school and a good attitude of jazz. Some citizens say that Yaroslavl Jazz Center is only place with a good music.

So, allow me to present one of the interesting jazz and blues groups of Yaroslavl. It's Overdrive Blues Band. I think that this group is good beginning of posts about our jazz bands.

Overdrive Blues Band:

  • Sergey Kuznetsov — vocal, wind instrument
  • Yury Tikhomirov — guitar
  • Andrey Volkovich — bass
  • Mikhail Fadeichev — drums

There are the albums "No More Jazz" and "Live in Yarburg bar". Latter is interesting because Max Nekrasov participated in the recording. Max is one of the best harmonicists in Russia.

Broadside is Yaroslavl alt core music band

There are lots of gorgeous music bands in Yaroslavl. Today I want to tell you about one of them — it is Broadside. Let's start with their song "Ustala" (in English: Exhausted) from the new album "Inside of Me":

The band was founded in 1997 year, but Broadside's birthday is January, 1998. Three students of Yaroslavl Music Specialized School after L.B. Sobinov have decided to create a music band of an unknown style. The style consisted of elements of funk, punk-rock, hard-rock, jazz, rap core and a form and features of classic music. They defined their style as alternative rock/nu metal. Band's rendering is bright but not aggressive. Music and creative work of the band is for general public: both youth and adults.

The creativity of the band was influenced by a lot of different music: from Grieg, Mozart, Ludwig van Beethoven, George Gershwin, to AC/DC, Deep Purple, Metallica, reen day, Korn, Limp Bizkit, Guano Apes, R.H.C.P., S.O.A.D.

Every year the band takes place on the festival Equilibrium in Yaroslavl. Also in 2007 year Broadside won in rock-festival in Kovrov in nomination "The best alternative music band".

Broadside remains untouched for all time. There are only three musicians in the band:

  • Andrey Kharchev — band's father, vocal, guitar and lyrics
  • Dmitry Shapulin — vocal, bass guitar, lyrics
  • Alexey Prilepsky — drums

The band had performances in many cities: Moscow, Arkhangelsk, St. Petersburg, Vologda, Orenburg, Rossosh, Nyandoma, Tutaev, Ivanovo, Rybinsk and other.

Broadside has recorded four albums:

  • "Spherical" — 2002 year
  • "Bezdna" (in Russian: Бездна, in English: Abyss) — 2003 year
  • "Antarktida" (in Russian: Антарктида, in English: Antarctica) — 2004 year
  • "Pozitiv" (in Russian: Позитив, in English: Positive) — 2006 year

In 2008 year the band decided to add something new. They took on Anastasiya Subbotina (vocal) and started to work on the new program "Inside Of Me".

Mamulki BEND is a gop-hip-hop music band of Yaroslavl

I'd like to present an old Yaroslavl music band Mamulki BEND (Russian: Мамульки Бенд, English: pun with words band and mother) which recently celebrated 10th anniversary! So, lets start with their promo video:

The idea to take up music born in student's hostel of Medical Academy in 1999 in Yaroslavl from Maxim Semenov. He was a student of Academy. Only in that place and only with special state of mind, the band with ridiculous name could be created.

In 90s the band played so called "goat-punk". But in 2002 year Mamulki has decided to change both cast and style and they've recorded their first album "Ya tu-tu" (Я ту-ту!), shot a music video and made appearances on local TV and radios.

In 2003 the band worked with the hockey team "Lokomotiv". That's why sung couplets in hockey-style are sung in the whole Russia.

In 2002 year we have learned to play music. And 2005 is the year of begging of corporate era of Mamulki's life. There was a mockery, live sound, funny arrangements and texts, bright caver-versions of soviet hits and the original scene image (crawlers, trousers with khokhloma-style and so on). All of this brought us to Moscow!

There was about 10-20 performances each month in 2005-2006 years. They sang with the most poplar Russian and west stars (from Kirkorov to C.C.Catch) in fashionable clubs of Moscow and other city of Russia.

After corporate music in 2007 Mamulki recorded the single "Veter" (Russian: Ветер, English: Wind) and shot a video in one of the Yaroslavl prison… and then they've recorded another two singles.

In 2007-2008 mp3-collection (13 albums and 135 songs) and DVD (8 videos) were released.

2008 — tour and work in home studio in Yaroslavl. As result there is a new album "Noviy Albom" (Russian: Новый Альбом; English: New Album). 2009 year is beginning of work on the project of two bands Mamulki and Bakh-Kompot (Бах-Компот).

Vnuki Svyatoslava is Yaroslavl acoustic folk-rock band

Recently we started to write about Yaroslavl music bands. Today I would like to tell you about one of my favorite group. It is Vnuki Svyatoslava (Russian: Внуки Святослава, English: Svyatoslav's grandchildren) which plays an acoustic folk-rock.

Let's start form beginning. February, 2002. Dmitry Konov and Artem Chirkov were studying in Yaroslavl State Technical University as two-year students and there was examinations, when Artem returned home in Tutaev after the last exam. There were nobody at his home and there would be plenty of couple of weeks of a holiday. What to do? Yes, Artem has decided to record a disk with his song. The more so because he bought a guitar half a year ago. When he has come from the holiday to carry on his education he proposed to listen to his work to a few friends. Especially he wanted to know Dmitry's opinion, because Dmitry was a musician and played as bass in the band "Osoboe Mnenie".

Dmitry said that he liked couple of Artem's songs. Artem inquired Dmitry to arrange his songs and Dmirty agreed and went to Tutaev for three days. By the evening they have recorded several songs and decided to create a new rock-band. It was the born of Vnuki Svyatoslava.

In March, 2005 Dmitry Konov met with a fascinating girl. She is Oksana Knyazeva. She has been engaged academic voice for 8 years and at present she studies in Yaroslavl Music Specialized School after L.B. Sobinov. And it was a beginning of the present life of band.

Once Dmitry invited Oksana to rehearsal and asked her to sing the song "Iskat Sebya". It was unbelievable!

The band Vnuki Svyatoslava:

  • Oksana Knyazeva — vocals, bells, tambourine
  • Michail Gryzyhin — guitar
  • Alina Petrova — violin
  • Xenia Lukianenko — violin, wheel lira
  • Irina Nadeinskaya — flute, ocarina, tarka, vocals, marakasy
  • Sergey Bushuyev — bass guitar (ak.)
  • Sergey Glebov — drums, bong
  • Dmitry Konov — guitar, balalaika, vargan, spoons, ocarina
  • All of the works — Vnuki Svyatoslava

There are two albums of Vnuki Svyatoslava: Iskat Sebya and Plesti venkami pesni.

Leto na Marse: the Classic Rock Band in Yaroslavl

We want to introduce a new section of our website with Yaroslavl musician reviews. When I asked Elina what a music band would be the first in our set she resolved writing about Leto na Marse.

The Yaroslavl band Leto na Marse (Russian: Лето на Марсе, English: Summer on Mars) was founded in October 2003 year. The first night was on the 29th of November.

We all went in the group having a little bit of music skills but all of us were willing to play music and do something own.

Leto na Marse visited Moscow in September 2005 and took part in Russian Competition "Have a right" ("Imeyu Pravo") of the music channel "O2 TV". Thanks to loyal followings they've won the first prize among 32 contestants.

In December 2006 the debut album "It's what is seen out the window" ("To, chto vidno za oknom", Russian: "То, что видно за окном") was released.

Make up a name of a band is always pitfalls. We were feverishly looking for variants when our bassist jokingly proposed "Leto na Marse". We were so excited! In fact, now he says he is irritated about this name (smiling). Let's face it. The name of group hasn't to reflect a music conception of the band.

The group is

  • Nicholay Shelekhov — guitar
  • Sergey Sushkov — vocals, guitar
  • Evgeny Bazhin — drums
  • Igor Vlasov — bass

Sometimes organizers mangle the band's name, e.g. "Mice on Summer". Today the band hasn't any director or promoter. And they solve all issues themselves. Once they proposed a soundtrack to a film director. He liked the soundtrack and now their voices are in the film.

Musical tastes are the main stumbling stone in the group. Somebody likes Russian music, another likes west music.

We wish there will be full house of Russian musicians in 100-150 years in New York.

Today the life is built with the principle "work and music". And they have to choose the best way.

Something brings money but it's not enjoyable. And another doesn't get a possibility to nurse a family but there is a great desire to do music. We hope we make the right decision.

We think they carry on their performance. If you want to look into further information you can visit Russian websites:

This band appeals to Elina.
